According to CCTV news, in the Shenzhou 1 to Shenzhou 11 missions, the Dongfeng Landing Site was used as a backup landing site for manned missions. It has been constructed simultaneously with the Siziwangqi Landing Site. On June 17, 2021, the Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. Three astronauts Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming, and Tang Hongbo led the expedition and started a three-month flight mission. The three became the first space visitors after China's manned spaceflight entered the space station stage.

The Shenzhou 12 manned flight mission is the seventh manned space flight organized and implemented by my country, and it is also the first manned space flight during the key technology verification and construction phase of the Chinese space station. During the operation in orbit, the astronauts completed the long-term stay test in the space station assembly, which tested the space station assembly's ability to guarantee the life, work, and health of the astronauts, related technologies, and the ability of the astronauts to perform flight missions. At the same time, the astronauts organized and implemented two out-of-vehicle activities, and with the support of the robotic arm, they carried out operations such as the assembly of related equipment outside the space station.

The crew of the Shenzhou 12 astronauts worked and lived in the space station complex for 90 days, setting a record for the duration of a single mission by Chinese astronauts. Before returning, the Shenzhou 12 manned spacecraft and the space station combination completed the circumnavigation and radial rendezvous tests, which successfully verified the radial rendezvous technology and laid an important technical foundation for subsequent manned missions.
